Inspire 2011, Jan 22nd in Northern Virginia

January 17, 2011

This post is long overdue, but I wanted to wait until we had the proper visuals in place. Well that day is here. It’s my honor to share with you Inspire 2011, set for January 22nd at KUMC GW in Northern Virginia. I’m sure many of you don’t know what Inspire is, well let me share with you their mission statement.

INSPIRE is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization committed to creating an outlet for Christians where they can express worship to God through their talents and passion for music. Not only do we strive to spread the message of God through music, and God-given talents, but we are committed to hosting benefit concerts to raise money for charity organizations, and desire to educate our audiences as well as our musicians about causes that need awareness and voices in this generation. We believe that music is a relevant form of communication today, and believe it to transcend beyond any other form of communication bringing people of diverse cultures and background together. We desire to bring non-Christians to an understanding of the Gospel message, while bringing Christians to a deeper affection with God by praising Him through worship, and music.

So long story short, Inspire 2011 is the first show they are holding on the East Coast, and there’s an incredible line up including Tim Be Told, Lyricks, AMP, Jae Jin & More. The event is being brought to you in conjunction with a-Tunes.net (waddup!), Helping Hands, and Omega Ministry on behalf of the Mahal Foundation to raise awareness regarding the orphan situation in the Philippines. So what more could you want? Great event, great performers, great cause. You don’t want to miss out on that do you?

You can find all the necessary information after the jump. See you there!

What is “HIBAKUSHA”?

January 11, 2011

Being a musician, blogger, and overall participant in the Asian-American community, I’ve come across a lot of great people doing a lot of great things. This is yet another example of just that. The homies Steve Nguyen ( Film maker and co-founder of ChannelAPA) and Choz Belen (MV Director/Animator for FM, Deep Foundation & others) are teaming up to bring us an animated short film called “HIBAKUSHA”.

So what the check is “HIBAKUSHA”? It’ll prob best to let you watch the clip below first.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

“HIBAKUSHA” is an animated documentary/drama featuring Kaz Suyeishi, an 84 year old woman, who recalls her most vivid and horrific experiences as an 18 year old Japanese American student during the morning of August 6, 1945 when the atomic bomb dropped on her hometown

So why am I sharing this with you? Because like most independent efforts, this project is in need of support, and I personally believe this is a story worth telling. Remember, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. You can support Steve & Choz too by visiting their kick starter page and/or by spreading the word.

Twenty Eleven

January 9, 2011

2010, for the most part, was a good year. There was a lot of growth on many fronts, but the growth also brought a lot of insight into what could be improved and refined. With that said, I intend to work on a lot of these shortcomings, along with becoming better organized. It’s become increasingly difficult to juggle a full-time job, a-Tunes, music, friendships and more, so before I end up having to make sacrifices I figure it’s better to streamline things now.

The past year was filled with blessings and I don’t want it all to go to waste. I’ll have more details in the future but for now… here’s to growth and learning opportunities in 2011. Let’s get it done!

With that I’ll leave you with a fun little Christmas video by my homie Jacob Kim where we set up a tree at the Photoria Studio. I know it’s a bit late to share, but I thought better than not at all.

Watch Your A.S.S.

November 24, 2010

It’s exciting to continue to see Wong Fu continue to expand and grow. Their latest project – Agents of Secret Stuff aka A.S.S. is a short film involving a lot of Youtube stars and features music from several Asian-American musicians. There are a lot of ridiculous one-liners and inside jokes but it’s great to watch. It clocks in at over 30 min so give yourself some time to view it. Congrats to WongFu, Ryan, and everyone else involved on the release! Their work only continues to improve.

Traphik Cracks Me Up… Sometimes

I’m kind of lukewarm to Traphik’s brand of comedy but every once in a while he’ll put a clip together that is borderline genius. This is some awesome commentary/parody of a certain style of Hip-Hop. I imagine all music has it’s place but sometimes artists dumb things down too much.

But without looking too deep into the matter, it’s just a fun/silly clip.
